Mali vretenac (Zingel streber)
Mali vretenac je autohtona vrsta i endem dunavskog slijeva. Sporadično se nađe u Dravi, Sutli, Kupi, Savi i Dunavu, pa otuda i ima različita narodna imena (baba, bogec, čep, fratar, kolčić, preslica). Mali vretenac naraste u prosjeku 12 – 18 cm. Naziv je dobio po obliku tijela koje je vretenasto. Živi u malim jatima od nekoliko jedinki, a aktivan je noću kad odlazi potragu za hranom u pliće dijelove. Hrana su mu pretežno riblja ikra i ličinke riba, te beskralježnjaci.
Streber (Zingel streber)
The streber is an autochthonous species that endemic to the Danube basin. It is sporadically found in the Drava, Sutla, Kupa, Sava and Danube, so it has different folk names (baba, bogec, čep, fratar, kolčić, preslica). The sterber grows 12-18 cm on average. It is named after the shape of the body, which is spindle-shaped. It has two separated dorsal fins and two relatively long pelvic fins. The gill cover ends with a spine. The body is grayish to golden brown in color, with five dark stripes. It lives in small shoals of several fish, and it is active at night when it goes in search of food in shallower parts. Its food is mostly fish roe and fish larvae, as well as invertebrates.
