On March 3rd we celebrate World Wildlife Day with the aim of conveying an important message about the importance of healthy ecosystems and the restoration of biodiversity, which seeks to change the fate of the most endangered species. This year’s theme is “Partnership for the Wildlife Conservation”. The habitat and flora monitoring is only one of the monitoring carried out in the project area, and it started on April 6, 2021, with the installation of the first permanent plot in the habitat of the common plover in the Special Zoological Reserve “Kopački rit”. The locality of this strictly protected species is also its newly recorded location in Croatia. Another permanent plot was installed on May 7, 2021 in the forest area around Tikveški Castle, where very numerous populations of forest orchids were found, dominated by the scarlet catkin (Orchis purpurea), one of the nine recorded species from the orchid family in the Nature Park. Kopački rit”. The goal of monitoring is to record the localities of endangered and rare species, as well as the population density in certain localities so that they can be adequately protected.
