World Water Day

World Water Day is celebrated every year on March 22 and focuses on the importance of water and raising awareness of the 2.2 billion people who do not have access to safe water. The idea for this international day arose on December 22, 1992 in Rio de Janeiro at the suggestion of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution and the first World Water Day was marked in 1993. Since then, every year, UN-Water, the body coordinating UN work in the field of water supply and sanitation, has determined the theme of World Water Day in response to a current or future challenge. World Water Day, celebrated for the 28th time in a row on March 22, emphasizes the value of water and raises awareness of the global water crisis, and this year is celebrated under the slogan – “Appreciate water”.
