In early April, in the Naturavita project area, rangers of Nature Park Kopački Rit found an exhausted and dehydrated white-tailed eagle. The bird was examined in the veterinary clinic of Dr. Doolitle where an X-ray revealed a fracture of the coracoid bone and a cracked beak. The white-tailed eagle was placed in the intensive care unit of the recovery center of ZOO Osijek, which has conditions for caring for mammals from the family of beasts, birds of prey and rodents. The recovery center temporarily holds them until they recover with the goal of returning to nature.
By the decision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy on the selection of a recovery center for wild animals from 11 April 2017, ZOO Osijek takes care of and carries out care for individuals of strictly protected wild animals from the Republic of Croatia who are found exhausted, sick, injured, wounded and / or poisoned. recovery and return to nature.
The recovery of “Naturavita eagle” with the therapy of antibiotics, antiparasitics and vitamins went very well. A menu was made according to the needs for this species, taking into account the diversity of food found in nature, he received a variety of foods (chicken breast, day-old chicks, mice, rats, eggs, fish and beef).
After resting in the intensive care unit, he was moved to an aviary to spread his wings and strengthen his pectoral muscles and gain strength and fitness for flight.
After assessing that the eagle was strong enough, it was ringed by ornithologist Tibor Mikuska, and on July 3, 2020, in the presence of ornithologist, expert leader of Nature park Kopački Rit Vlatko Rožac and biologist Marija Vereš, he was released to the special zoo reserve to continue flying and decorating our project area.
