Project „Naturavita“ shows excellent results

A project team meeting was held

On November 23, 2018, a project team meeting was held for the project Naturavita – “Demining, Restoration and Protection of Forests and Forest Land in Protected and Natura 2000 Areas in the Danube-Drava Region”. At the meeting current activities were presented and an action plan for the next three months was agreed.

The total value of the project is EUR 49.9m. From the beginning of the first demining operations in August 2018, about EUR 9m , or 18% of the total projected value has been absorbed/spent. By implementing this project, one of the results will be 5.97 km² of forest and forest land cleared of mines in the area of Nature Park “Kopački rit” and 19.37 km² in the Regional Park Mura-Drava.

It is certainly a very positive fact  that from the total of 25 km2 which are planned to be cleared from mines by the end of the project, already 10 km2 have been demined so far. In addition to this, preparatory works for the biological renewal of forests have been completed on 10 hectares, and the planting of seedlings starts in December 2018 and will last until April next year.

One of the topics of the meeting was a more detailed elaboration of project activities for the educational component of the project. The target groups for education were defined during the meeting (children in the fourth and sixth grade of elementary school, high schools, students) together whith a projection for the education plan for the school year 2019/2020.The plan is  to educate almost 5000 students from 27 schools through 115 lectures. The long-term plan is to include the Educational and Visitor Center “Podravlje” in the elementary schoolcurricula.
