Naturavita project area without mines, after 29 years

By issuing the  two left over official  certificates of exclusion from the mine suspected area, the demining activity of the Naturavita project has been completed in its entirety.

After 29 years, 2.534 ha of forests and forest land were cleared in protected areas and areas of the  EU ecological network, Natura 2000. The above mentioned areas refer to forests and forest lands managed by Croatian Forests Ltd., the Forest Management Branch of Osijek, within the Kopački rit Nature Park and the Mura-Drava Regional Park, which was necessary to clear mine in order to create a precondition for most other project activities

The demining areas are entirely located in Osijek-Baranja County. In total, five separate units were identified and a certificate of exclusion from mine suspected areas was issued for each of them:

  • „JU Park prirode Kopački rit“ –  surface 5.975.875 m2
  • „Desna obala rijeke Drave“ – surface 2.651.371  m2
  • „Dravica I“ –  surface 6.532.301 m2
  • „Veliko polje – Biljski rit“ – surface 4.884.625  m2
  • „Bezdan – Topolik“ – surface 5.299.511  m2

By so  far, 25.3 km of forests and forest land have been cleared, or  100 % of the total projected area.  In the demined area, 5,611 explosive remnants of war have been found and destroyed, of which 1,762 are anti-personnel mines, 3,103 anti-tank mines and 746 pieces of other unexploded ordinances.
